    Add and subtract decimals.
Perform addition and subtraction of decimals to solve equations accurately.

    πŸ™‚ = Correct, ☹️ = Incorrect

    πŸ“Œ Rules

β€’ Align the decimal points vertically: When setting up column addition or subtraction, line up the decimal points in a straight vertical row so that digits with the same place value (ones, tenths, hundredths) align correctly.

β€’ Use placeholder zeros: Fill any empty spaces at the end of decimal numbers with zero so both numbers have the same number of decimal places. For example, to calculate 5.4 – 2.18, rewrite 5.4 as 5.40 before subtracting.

    πŸ’‘ Tips

β€’ Carry and exchange as usual: Addition and subtraction work exactly the same as with whole numbersβ€”carry over to the left when adding sums of 10 or more, and exchange from the column on the left when subtracting a larger digit from a smaller digit.

β€’ Quick typing on our platform: Typing your answer is designed to be super quick and simple! Just type plain digits or decimals like 7.58 or 3.22 without adding any spaces or extra words.

    ⚠️ Warnings

β€’ Don’t forget to put the decimal point in your answer: Make sure you bring the decimal point straight down into your answer line in the exact same position.

β€’ Do not align by the rightmost digit: Aligning 4.5 and 1.23 by the right edge causes you to add tenths to hundredths! Always line up by the decimal point.
