A Different Story About Maths
When maths becomes meaningful, mindset changes. When mindset changes, results follow.
Many children approach maths with dread rather than excitement, and if we are honest, we rarely stop to ask them why.
Over the years, we began noticing patterns in classrooms across the UK.

Many pupils could complete calculations, follow procedures, and fill in worksheets. Yet when faced with simple real-life problems, they often froze. They had learned the methods, but not the meaning. Confidence was often missing, along with the ability to apply maths in real-world contexts.
At the same time, we noticed something else.
Some children who struggled to stay focused in traditional lessons could spend long periods deeply engaged when learning felt like a challenge or a game. They could concentrate, persist and improve when the environment gave them a reason to stay involved.
That raised an important question.
Perhaps the issue was not attention, but connection.
Numbers on their own mean very little.
As humans, we build understanding through stories, purpose, and context. Without these, practice can feel empty: effort without direction, repetition without meaning. It is no surprise that motivation fades.
We believe the biggest barrier to success in Year 6 maths is not ability, but mindset.
And mindset shifts when the narrative changes.
Our approach: shifting the narrative
MathsForSATs.com was created by UK teachers who understand both the pressure of SATs and the reality of primary classrooms. We are not replacing teachers. We are supporting them with a structured, curriculum-aligned system that helps every child move forward with clarity and confidence.
We started with one question:
How to make maths meaningful for every child?
Our answer was simple: give them purpose, context and a reason to think.
Learn, practise, apply, test, solve and play
Each part of the platform is designed to build understanding over time as part of a connected learning journey.
Learn
Pupils build fluency through carefully scaffolded, step-by-step tasks, with instant feedback and targeted hints that guide thinking and strengthen connections.
Practise
Exam-style reasoning tasks develop independent thinking. With clear, immediate feedback, mistakes become stepping stones for learning rather than setbacks.

Apply
Pupils use maths in story-based and real-world contexts where problems feel meaningful, not abstract or disconnected.
Test
SATs-style assessments build familiarity, stamina and confidence across the full Year 6 curriculum.
Solve
Pupils step into structured mystery stories where reasoning matters. Every challenge contributes to a wider story, where each solution reveals new information and builds understanding.
Play
Play is not a separate “reward section”. It is part of the wider learning journey. Designed to support long-term progress, each session contributes to a growing understanding of what a pupil knows, what they struggle with, and what they are ready to learn next.
Behind the scenes, learning is tracked and analysed over time. This creates a clearer picture of progress rather than isolated snapshots.
For children, it feels like a challenge, progress and achievement.
For teachers, it becomes clear, actionable insight into learning needs.
For both, it supports steady improvement over time, rather than one-off engagement spikes.
Built for teachers, designed for children
With over 300 Year 6 curriculum-aligned resources, including stories, worksheets, mastery checks, reasoning challenges and full mock tests, the platform supports both classroom teaching and independent study.
For teachers, the Analytics Dashboard provides real-time, unit-specific insights into pupil performance. Work is marked instantly, and reports are available as soon as tasks are completed. Gaps can be identified quickly, interventions planned precisely, and progress celebrated confidently.
For pupils, the experience feels structured yet exciting. Motivating yet rigorous. Challenging yet supportive.
For parents, it provides reassurance that revision is purposeful, comprehensive and aligned with the national curriculum.
More than SATs preparation
Of course, strong SATs results matter.
But what matters more is this:
- Children who understand why they are learning.
- Children who can apply their knowledge beyond the worksheet.
- Children who approach new problems with curiosity rather than fear.
Maths is something they will encounter every day for the rest of their lives. Our goal is not simply to prepare them for an exam, it is to equip them with the confidence, resilience and reasoning skills they need far beyond Year 6.

The problem with the old story about maths

The traditional approach does not work for every child. When maths is taught the same way for everyone, some pupils inevitably fall behind. Confidence drops, gaps widen and revision becomes more about repetition than understanding.
We believe maths does not have to be endured.
It can be explored.
It can be mastered.
It can even be thrilling.
At MathsForSATs.com, revision becomes a world of discovery, structured for teachers and meaningful for children.
When the story changes, the mindset changes.
And when mindset changes, results follow.
Join a new narrative for Year 6 maths.
