Convert mixed numbers to improper fractions.
To write a fraction, type the numerator, followed by the forward slash, and then the denominator. For example, to write one-half, you would type: 1/2. To write three quarters, you would type 3/4.

    πŸ™‚ = Correct, ☹️ = Incorrect

    πŸ“Œ Rules

β€’ Multiply the whole number by the bottom number: To turn a mixed number into an improper fraction, start by multiplying the whole number by the denominator. If you have 2 3/4 pizzas, each whole pizza is split into 4 slices, so 2 Γ— 4 = 8 slices.

β€’ Add the extra slices: Add the numerator (the top number) to your answer and keep the same denominator underneath. For 2 3/4, add the 3 extra slices to get 8 + 3 = 11 slices, giving 11/4.

    πŸ’‘ Tips

β€’ Keep the denominator the same: The bottom number never changes during conversion! For 2 3/4, the denominator stays 4 because the size of the slices has not changed, turning into 11/4.

β€’ Quick typing on our platform: Typing your improper fraction is designed to be super quick and simple! Just type the top number, a forward slash, and the bottom number like 11/4 without adding any spaces or commas.

    ⚠️ Warnings

β€’ Do not forget to add the top number: Doing 2 Γ— 4 = 8 gives only the slices from the whole pizzas. If you forget to add the extra 3 slices, writing 8/4 instead of 11/4 is incorrect!

β€’ Do not change the bottom number: Multiplying 2 Γ— 4 does not mean you change the denominator to 8. Writing 11/8 changes the size of the slices, which is incorrect.
