Compare the fractions using <, > and =.

    🙂 = Correct, ☹️ = Incorrect

    📌 Rules

    • Convert to a common denominator first: To compare two fractions with different bottom numbers, change them so they share the same denominator. Imagine comparing 2/3 and 3/4 of a chocolate bar. Convert both denominators to 12 to get 8/12 and 9/12.

    • Compare the top numbers: Once the bottom numbers are the same, compare the numerators (top numbers). Since 9/12 is bigger than 8/12, 3/4 is greater than 2/3, so write 2/3 < 3/4.

    💡 Tips

    • The crocodile mouth eats the bigger number: Remember that the symbol always opens up towards the larger fraction (e.g. 2/3 < 3/4 means the wide end points to 3/4).

    • Quick typing on our platform: Typing your answer is designed to be super quick and simple! You only need to type the single symbol (<, >, or =) without adding any spaces or commas.

    ⚠️ Warnings

    • Do not just compare the top numbers straight away: Looking at 2/3 and 3/8 and thinking 3/8 is bigger because 3 is greater than 2 is incorrect! When converted to a common denominator of 24, 2/3 becomes 16/24 while 3/8 is only 9/24.

    • Be careful with bigger denominators: Remember that a larger bottom number means smaller slice sizes! For example, 1/4 is bigger than 1/8 because cutting a pizza into 4 pieces gives larger slices than cutting it into 8 pieces.
