Add fractions with a common denominator.
To write a fraction, type the numerator, followed by the forward slash, and then the denominator. For example, to write one-half, you would type: 1/2. To write three quarters, you would type 3/4.

    ๐Ÿ™‚ = Correct, โ˜น๏ธ = Incorrect

    ๐Ÿ“Œ Rules

โ€ข Add only the top numbers: When fractions share the same denominator (bottom number), simply add the numerators (top numbers) together. Imagine a pizza cut into 8 equal slices. If you eat 2/8 and your friend eats 3/8, you add the slices together (2 + 3 = 5) to get 5/8.

โ€ข Keep the bottom number the same: The denominator stays exactly as it is because the total size of the pieces has not changed. For 2/8 + 3/8, the denominator remains 8.

    ๐Ÿ’ก Tips

โ€ข Check if you can simplify: If your final answer can be simplified, reduce it to lowest terms. For example, if adding fractions gives 4/8, divide both numbers by 4 to write 1/2.

โ€ข Quick typing on our platform: Typing your answer is designed to be super quick and simple! Just type your numerator, a forward slash, and your denominator like 5/8 without adding any spaces or commas.

    โš ๏ธ Warnings

โ€ข Never add the bottom numbers: Adding 2/8 + 3/8 does not mean adding 8 + 8 on the bottom. Writing 5/16 would mean the pizza slices became smaller, which is incorrect!

โ€ข Watch out for answers over 1: If adding top numbers gives a fraction like 9/8, make sure you double-check whether the task asks for an improper fraction (9/8) or a mixed number (1 1/8).
