    Percentage of an amount.
Percentages pop up everywhere – in the classroom, at the bakery, or even during epic dragon battles. Tackle these real-life challenges and prove your skills in working out the right amounts!

    πŸ™‚ = Correct, ☹️ = Incorrect

    πŸ“Œ Rules

β€’ Find key benchmark percentages first:

    – 50%: Divide the amount by 2 (e.g. 50% of Β£80 = Β£40).

    – 25%: Divide the amount by 4 (or halve 50%).

    – 10%: Divide the amount by 10 (e.g. 10% of Β£80 = Β£8).

    – 1%: Divide the amount by 100 (e.g. 1% of Β£80 = Β£0.80).

β€’ Combine benchmark percentages for complex values: Build up any percentage using simple additions or subtractions of your benchmarks.

    – For 15% of 200: calculate 10% (20) + 5% (10) = 30.

    – For 35% of 160: calculate 10% Γ— 3 (48) + 5% (8) = 56.

    – For 99% of 400: calculate 100% (400) – 1% (4) = 396.

    πŸ’‘ Tips

    β€’ Use the multiplier or fraction method for large quantities: Convert the percentage into a simplified fraction or decimal before multiplying (e.g. 75% of 120 = 3/4 Γ— 120 = 90, or 20% of 250 = 0.2 Γ— 250 = 50).

β€’ Quick typing on our platform: Typing your answer is designed to be super quick and simple! Just type plain digits like 30, 56, or 396 without adding percentage signs (%), currency symbols (Β£), unit labels, or spaces.

    ⚠️ Warnings

β€’ Distinguish finding a percentage from percentage increases/decreases: Check whether the question asks for just the percentage amount (e.g. “What is 15% of Β£80?” β†’ Β£12) or the new total after a change (e.g. “Reduce Β£80 by 15%” β†’ Β£68).

β€’ Watch decimal places when calculating 1%: When dividing by 100, shift digits two places to the right (e.g. 1% of 45 is 0.45, not 4.5).
