    Algebra – Equations.
Enter the value of x in the fields below.

    πŸ™‚ = Correct, ☹️ = Incorrect

    πŸ“Œ Rules

β€’ Balance both sides: An equation states that two expressions are equal. Whatever operation you perform on one side of the equals sign, you must do the exact same to the other side to keep it balanced.

    β€’ Isolate the variable (x): Use inverse operations to get x by itself. For example, to solve x + 7 = 15, subtract 7 from both sides (15 – 7 = 8, so x = 8). To solve 3x = 18, divide both sides by 3 (18 Γ· 3 = 6, so x = 6).

    πŸ’‘ Tips

    β€’ Solving two-step equations: Undo addition or subtraction first, then undo multiplication or division. For 2x + 5 = 13, subtract 5 first (2x = 8), then divide by 2 to get x = 4.

β€’ Quick typing on our platform: Typing your answer is designed to be super quick and simple! Just type plain digits or decimals like 8 or 4.5 without typing x = or adding any spaces.

    ⚠️ Warnings

β€’ Check your answer by substituting back in: Once you find x, place it back into the original equation to verify that both sides balance correctly.

    β€’ Do not confuse 2x with x + 2: Remember that 2x means 2 Γ— x. To remove a coefficient of 2, you must divide by 2, not subtract 2.
