Select the most appropriate unit for measuring each item or animal.

    🙂 = Correct, ☹️ = Incorrect

    📌 Rules

    • Choose units based on size and capacity: Length uses millimetres (mm) for tiny items like an ant, centimetres (cm) for a pencil, metres (m) for the playground, and kilometres (km) for long journeys. Mass uses grams (g) for light items like a paperclip and kilograms (kg) for heavier items like a dog. Capacity uses millilitres (ml) for a spoon of liquid and litres (l) for a bucket.

    • Match the scale of the object: Pick the unit that gives a sensible, manageable number. For example, measuring a cat’s mass in kilograms (4kg) makes far more sense than using grams (4000g).

    💡 Tips

    • Use everyday reference benchmarks: Remember that 1mm is about the thickness of a credit card, 1cm is roughly the width of a fingernail, 1g is the weight of a paperclip, and 1l is a standard carton of milk.

    • Quick typing on our platform: Typing your answer is designed to be super quick and simple! Just select or type the exact unit abbreviation like cm or kg without adding any spaces or commas.

    ⚠️ Warnings

    • Do not confuse mass and capacity: Mass measures how heavy something is (g, kg), whereas capacity measures how much liquid a container holds (ml, l). Measuring a water bottle’s volume in kilograms instead of millilitres is incorrect!

    • Watch out for tiny vs huge units: Measuring the distance between two cities in metres or the length of an eraser in kilometres would result in numbers that are far too large or small to be practical.
