    2-step function machines.
These 2-step function machines perform not one, but two operations in sequence. Your mission: crack the code and figure out what happens to each number along the way!

    🙂 = Correct, ☹️ = Incorrect

    📌 Rules

    • Finding the output (Forward direction): Follow the operations in strict order from left to right. For example, if the input is 6 and the rules are × 3 then + 4, calculate the first step (6 × 3 = 18), then apply the second step (18 + 4 = 22).

    • Finding the input (Reverse direction): Work backwards starting from the output and perform the inverse (opposite) operations in reverse order! For example, if the output is 22 and the machine does × 3 then + 4, undo the last step first (22 – 4 = 18), then undo the first step (18 ÷ 3 = 6).

    💡 Tips

    • Track the middle step: Write down or mentalize the intermediate value after Step 1 before moving on to Step 2 to avoid mental arithmetic slips.

    • Quick typing on our platform: Typing your answer is designed to be super quick and simple! Just type plain digits like 22 or 6 without adding any spaces, letters, or symbols.

    ⚠️ Warnings

    • Do not reverse the operations without reversing the order: When working backwards from the output, you must undo the second operation before undoing the first operation. Doing 22 ÷ 3 first would give an incorrect result!

    • Watch out for inverse operation pairs: Remember that addition (+) undoes subtraction (–) and multiplication (×) undoes division (÷).
