Divide large numbers using short division (the bus stop method).
    Don’t include any symbols.

    πŸ™‚ = Correct, ☹️ = Incorrect

    πŸ“Œ Rules

β€’ Short division helps us share big numbers into equal groups. Imagine sharing 432 sweets equally between 3 party bags. We write 432 inside the bus stop and 3 on the outside.

β€’ We work from left to right, one digit at a time. First, see how many 3s fit into 4. It fits 1 time with 1 left over, so write 1 above the 4 and carry the leftover 1 to the next digit to make 13 sweets.

β€’ Next, see how many 3s fit into 13. It fits 4 times because 3 Γ— 4 = 12, leaving 1 left over. Carry that 1 to make 12, then divide 12 by 3 to get 4. Your final answer above the bus stop is 144.

    πŸ’‘ Tips

    β€’ Use your multiplication facts to help you. If you know that 3 Γ— 4 = 12, you instantly know that 12 Γ· 3 = 4.

β€’ To make typing super easy and quick on our platform, always type your final numbers using plain digits only, like 1000000. You do not need to add any commas or spaces because our number fields take care of everything for you.

    ⚠️ Warnings

β€’ Remember to write a 0 above any digit if your divisor cannot fit into it. For example, if you are dividing 612 by 3, 3 fits into 6 twice, but fits into 1 zero times. Write 0 above the 1 and carry the 1 over to make 12, giving 204 instead of 24.

β€’ Do not forget to carry over your remainders to the next digit on the right as you move along the bus stop.
