Solve multi-step calculations by following the correct order of operations.
    Don’t include any symbols.

    πŸ™‚ = Correct, ☹️ = Incorrect

    πŸ“Œ Rules

β€’ Always follow the BIDMAS order: Brackets first, then Indices (powers like 2Β²), then Division and Multiplication, and finally Addition and Subtraction. Think of sharing 3 bags with 4 sweets each (3 Γ— 4) plus 2 extra sweets: you multiply to count the bagged sweets first before adding the extra ones!

β€’ Division and multiplication have equal priority, so you work them out from left to right. Addition and subtraction also have equal priority, so you work them out from left to right too.

    πŸ’‘ Tips

    β€’ Rewrite the calculation line by line as you solve each part. For example, to solve 5 + 3 Γ— 4, work out 3 Γ— 4 = 12 first, then rewrite the line as 5 + 12 = 17.

β€’ When typing your final answers on our platform, keep typing quick and simple by using plain digits only (for example, write 10000, not 10,000 or 10 000). The answer box handles the rest automatically!

    ⚠️ Warnings

β€’ Do not just work from left to right if there are different operations! Doing 5 + 3 Γ— 4 from left to right gives 8 Γ— 4 = 32 ☹️, but using BIDMAS gives the correct answer of 17 πŸ™‚.

    β€’ Do not assume addition always comes before subtraction. In a sum like 10 – 3 + 2, subtraction and addition have equal priority, so work from left to right: 10 – 3 = 7, then 7 + 2 = 9 πŸ™‚ (doing 3 + 2 first gives 10 – 5 = 5 ☹️).
