    πŸ“Œ Rules

β€’ Factors are the whole numbers you multiply together to make a target number.

β€’ An array is a grid set out in equal rows and columns: a chocolate bar with 3 rows going across and 4 columns going down has 3 Γ— 4 = 12 total pieces, making 3 and 4 a factor pair of 12.

β€’ Common factors are the twin numbers shared by two different target numbers: 12 and 16 both share 1, 2, and 4 as factors, so 4 is a common factor because a 4-column chocolate bar works for both 12 and 16 pieces!

    πŸ’‘ Tips

β€’ Turn your chocolate bar sideways to see the same factor pair in reverse: 4 rows and 3 columns shows that 4 Γ— 3 also makes 12!

    β€’ Hunt for factors systematically in pairs: start with 1 and your target number (1 Γ— 12 = 12), then test 2 (2 Γ— 6 = 12), then 3 (3 Γ— 4 = 12) until all matching pairs are found.

β€’ Our platform keeps typing quick and simple by using plain digits only, so there is no need to add any spaces or commas when typing answers like 120.

    ⚠️ Warnings

β€’ If your grid leaves a lonely extra piece that does not make a full row (like trying to make 5 equal rows with 12 pieces), 5 is not a factor of 12!

β€’ Do not confuse factors with multiples: 3 and 4 are factors that fit inside 12, whereas 12, 24, and 36 are multiples in the 12 times table.
